About this book

'Beneath the Surface' is David Miller's first book and in it he combines his love of wildlife with his skill as a painter to produce a unique portrait of the rarely glimpsed world beneath Britains' lakes, rivers and seas.

An angler from an early age, David now spends much of his time studying his quarry in its natural environment. In 'Beneath the Surface' he explains how he first caught the 'fishing-bug' and how this early obsession translated itself to an urge to capture his elusive quarry with a paintbrush as well as a rod.

In later years snorkelling and diving transformed David's work, and he admits that he is at his happiest underwater, whether it be face-to-face with a territorial sea-trout in one of his local rivers or searching for bass and pollock off the Welsh coast.

In order to capture such wonderful images David draws not only on his first hand experience from diving in some of Britain's most beautiful waters, but also his deep-rooted reverence for and understanding of his subject that is only rarely found in modern-day wildlife art.
