About this book

An account of the history, status and distribution of the birds breeding in the former County of Cleveland, England.

The book starts by describing how the landscape has developed since the last glaciation, leading to a wide range of habitats within the 230 square miles of Cleveland. The main body is devoted to the accounts of the 127 species breeding in Cleveland. Each account describes the habitat requirements for the species, the historical records for the local area, and concludes by making predictions about its future prospects. The account has a distribution map and is illustrated with a superb monochrome sketch. The whole book is enhanced with over 70 full-colour photographs of birds, panoramas, and aerials.
