About this book

This county avifauna is the result of a 6-year survey to record the state of Wiltshire's birds at the beginning of the new Millennium. Each of the 308 bird species ever recorded is illustrated and described in comprehensive species accounts. Maps show the breeding distribution, and summer and winter abundance for each species.

Other chapters include information on methods, habitats, population trends, conservation and more.

This is the first county avifauna to include both summer and winter maps of relative abundance, and much supplementary information helps to make this the most comprehensive year-round avifaune for any county: a kind of Domesday book for Wiltshire birds. The results are not only an important measure of biodiversity, but will also be of value and interest to anybody concerned with - or about - the future of Wiltshire's countryside.
