About this book

A Field Guide to the Birds of the Indian Subcontinent covers all 1300 species of birds found on the Indian subcontinent in a format which is both authoritative and which can be carried easily on a field trip. Ber van Perlo and Krys Kazmierczak have followed the successful formula laid down in van Perlo's Collins Illustrated Checklist: Birds of Eastern Africa and have produced a book that will make the field identification of Indian birds much simpler.

Reprint of the Field Guide published in 2000.

Customer Reviews:

Disappointing Illustrations
by P in United Kingdom
I received the book, as I was torn between Ber Van Perlo's version and the version by Tim and Carol Inkskipp. I had not seen inside either of these books and so judged which one to purchase by the illustrations on the cover, I bought the one by Ber Van Perlo. Well, as the saying goes "don't judge a book by its cover" and that is the mistake I made. The illustrations are patchy and poor and too many to a page, many birds overlap, therefore obscuring their full plumage. I therefore sent it back and got the version by Tim and Carol Inkskipp, which is much better and I highly recommend. I hope this review helps anyone deciding which one of the two books to get!
