About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Serbian

This inventory was made on the basis of existing published and unpublished data, stored within the database of the Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia, but also after thorough browsing over bird collections in museums and private collections, known to possess items from Serbia (both in Serbia and in Hungary). References date back to the early 17th century, when the first reliable data on birds occurring in the territory now held by Serbia were published. Some “famous” records were rejected after extensive discussion within the team of authors, including some species considered to be breeders, but whose breeding was inadequately or wrongly documented. The final inventory contains Serbian and scientific names, occurrence and breeding categories and a condensed description of the main elements of the species’ ecology: historical and current occurrence, distribution in Serbia and habitats, both in Serbian and in English.
