The Atlas of Breeding Birds in Bulgaria is the first ever publication of its kind for this country and contains the most complete information about the breeding bird fauna in the country. Based on standard methodology, it covers virtually all 1240 10x10 km squares on the territory of Bulgaria for the period 1996-2005. 297 species accounts are presented, with a black-and-white drawing, and information on status, population size, distribution, habitat, altitude range, and distribution map.
The Atlas represents a scientific basis for the identification of Important Bird Areas in Bulgaria, for future monitoring, as well as for successful conservation.
"[This] is a formidable achievement. Given the historical context emphasized in the texts, one gets a clear sense of what is happening to birds in Bulgaria."
– Mike Blair, Ibis, The Journal of the British Ornithologists' Union, July 2009
