Artificial refuges attract reptiles as they absorb heat and provide shelter from predators. As a result they can be used as an aid to reptile surveys. Roofing felt is commonly used because it is light enough to transport but produces favourable conditions beneath, which is attractive to reptiles. Tiles should be located in sunny areas near to cover and away from human disturbance.
Felt tiles are made from bitumen felt and are available in two sizes: 50 x 50cm or 100 x 50cm. They will roll up for convenient transport.
Available individually or in packs of 10 and 100.
