The Sand Martin Nest Box has been designed with the help of specialists and is ideal for use in artificial banks or cliffs. Sand martins excavate tunnels in soft sand besides rivers and lakes with a nesting chamber at the end. This nest box is designed to replicate their natural nesting strategy and is constructed out of Ecoplate, which is a durable board made from recycled car seats, and lined with WoodStone which is a breathable mix of wood fibres and concrete. The Sand Martin Nest Box is ideal for sites on artificial waterways, natural waterways lacking suitable banks or as an aid to boosting existing populations. Sand martins nest in colonies of at least 12 pairs, so if the aim is to attract a new colony ensure at least 12 nest tunnels are used. Large colonies may contain over 100 breeding pairs.
