Hand-made from slow-seasoned FSC cedar, this natural box has a 55mm entrance hole which is suitable for great-spotted woodpeckers and may also be used by starlings. The hole is surrounded by a panel of silver birch which provides a natural and attractive finish. All of the joints are screwed together for durability and the lid is hinged for inspection. The inside of the lid is fitted with a bracket to which a camera can be attached.
This box should be sited in a tree at a height of 3 - 5m above the ground. Choose a location which is quiet and undisturbed and face the box away from the prevailing wind if possible. A bag of wood shavings are provided with which to line the box, and it should be cleaned out in the autumn in preparation for the following spring.
