Knowledge of the syrphid fauna of the Eastern Himalayan Region is poor. The literature on the flower flies of this region is diffuse and scattered in the state fauna series of the Zoological Survey of India. The present check-list is to fill this gap. The family Syrphidae is divided into 3 subfamilies and 15 tribes and contains more than 5,500 described species in the World of which 264 species and 5 subspecies under 62 genera of 2 subfamilies are reported from India. The present check-list reports 150 species of 50 genera under 15 tribes belonging to 2 subfamilies of hover flies (published & unpublished) from the Eastern Himalayan region of India.
