This is the first new and expanded edition in 16 years since the first edition published in 2004. The total number of recordings has increased from 470 to 534, and 64 species have been added. Approximately 80% of 661 Japanese gobies (as of March 2020) are recorded. The book introduces a variety of gobies living in rivers, lakes, coasts, coral reefs, etc., from freshwater to brackish water and seawater, and includes clear ecological photographs and detailed explanations for each species and genus.
