This Atlas provides a comprehensive inventory and distributional analysis of the birds of New South Wales (NSW), the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and the waters of the western Tasman Sea. The principal aims of the NSW Bird Atlassers (NSWBA ) are to determine the distribution of birds in NSW, monitor their status and promote better public understanding of birds. This work continues to be supported by a dedicated band of supporters concerned for the welfare of all birds.
Volume 2 contains the information on 165 species in the range Comb-crested Jacana to Striated Pardalote. The last volume will cover the remaining species known to occur in the area of concern. Details for each species include the current distribution, breeding distribution, seasonal and historic range changes and current status. Some analysis is included on breeding season and changes in reporting rate over time. Volume 2 also includes a brief history of ornithology in NS W and the ACT .
The findings of these volumes are a baseline against which future changes and the effectiveness of conservation measures can be evaluated and they affirm the need to continue the work of the NSWBA .
