This second edition of the atlas of land and freshwater molluscs of Italy lists 1092 species and includes 3700 colour photos.
From the foreword:
"This atlas originates from the idea of photographing the collection of Land Shells of the Malacological Museum of Cupra Marittima, and follows the successful 1995 edition. After 25 years we have considered useful and appropriate to publish this updated, extended and graphically improved edition.
Over the past few years we have documented almost all species existing in Cupra Marittima Museum, incorporating the historical Museum collection as well as the Valenti and Simi collections acquired over the years. We are grateful for the priceless help and suggestions of the leading Italian malacologists, who carry on their studies on Italian terrestrials and freshwater shells, quoted elsewhere, honouring and continuing the work of the scholars of the past that we cannot fail to mention: Monterosato, Lessona, Pollonera, Porro, Paulucci, Benoit, Spinelli, Calcara, Alzona, Settepassi, Giusti and many others.
We have no claims to present revisions or validations of any kind, but we do hope that our work may be of some use to those who deal with Italian land and freshwater shells and may be an invitation addressed to the expert of the field to share their knowledge. The presentation of the various shells follows a systematic order, mediated between the lists published by SIM, WoRMS, various websites and recent books on the subject. For each species the genus, the subspecies (if existing), the species, the author, the year, are indicated, as well as the measurement in millimetres of the specimen presented, the place of origin, and the possible location in a museum in the case of "type". A brief essential bibliography and an analytical index conclude this work."
