About this book

This book presents an original account of the bryoflora of the Southernmost Eastern Ghats and deals with 148 species belonging to 77 genera, 39 families and 12 orders. Of these, 101 species, 52 genera, 25 families and nine orders belong to mosses, and 47 species, 25 genera, 14 families and three orders belong to liverworts. It includes one moss new to India, one moss new to Peninsular India, three genera of mosses and two genera of liverworts, eight mosses, five liverworts and one variety of moss new to the Eastern ghats. The nomenclature has been updated following the current International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. There are 56 figure plates and 16 colour plates, and synonyms pertaining to India and neighbouring regions are provided, which include almost all Indian literature. Species are described in detail, mostly based on fresh material. Information on habitat, distribution, etc., is provided. Botany scholars and faculty, researchers in academic and research institutions, forest departments and those interested in bryophyte research would find the book useful.
