About this book

Language: French

The Mont Lozère, France, encompasses some 40,000 ha and peaks at nearly 1,700 m altitude. It is a geological whole, morphologically and climatically unique on the southern edge of the Massif Central in contact with the Causses, a group of limestone plateaus (700–1,200 m) in the Massif Central. The Cevennes National Park created in 1970 completely includes Mont Lozère. For several years, scientists and park authorities have initiated and developed inventories to measure biodiversity on all of its territory, and particularly on the non-vascular flora. The bryological flora inventory presents a particularly interesting facet, since, until now, this plant group has been very little researched in the Park, especially on the Mont Lozère. To fill this gap, three studies of one week each were conducted in 2001, 2002 and 2003 under the scientific authority of Cevennes National Park. These studies have been described briefly in two preliminary reports, one in 2002 on peatlands (Bardat et al., 2002) and in 2003 on the scree (Bardat and Boudier, 2003). This bulletin now reports the full results of the studies.
