About this book

Language: Dutch

In marshes, forest, and heath, on church walls, sea dikes and roof tiles, almost everywhere mosses and lichens give colour to our environment. Just like vascular plants species with similar habitat requirements grow together and form communities. This guide given an overview of all the communities of mosses and lichens in the Netherlands that have so far escaped attention. You will be amazed at their diversity.

De Vegetatie van Nederland, Volume 6 for the first time provides an overview of all recorded moss and lichen communities in the Netherlands. The book treats aquatic, epiphytic and terrestrial associations, divided over 16 classes. The species composition per class is shown in synoptic tables. Furthermore, all associations are supported by recordings of vegetation, and have been tabulated.

- Introduction with definitions and nomenclature, connections with other plant communities, the bryolichen complex, substrate, environment, microbiotopes, ecological indicator indices, and recording methods
- Description of all Dutch moss and lichen communities since 1990
- For each class: diagnostic species, ecology, succession, value and population trends, syntaxonomical divisions, and differences with other classes
- Synoptic table: species composition with all unique and diagnostic species
- Identification using dichotomous keys, and characteristic species combinations and properties such as substrate and location
- For each (sub)assocations information such as unique species, ecology and distribution in the Netherlands
- For each association a table with ten floristically characteristical recordings with scientific and Dutch species names

This book continues earlier parts in this series. A unique reference work for bryologists, lichenologists and managers. Also accessible to amateur naturalists.
