This Atlas provides a comprehensive inventory and distributional analysis of the birds of New South Wales (NSW), the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and the waters of the western Tasman Sea. The principal aims of the NSW Bird Atlassers (NSWBA ) are to determine the distribution of birds in NSW, monitor their status and promote better public understanding of birds. This work continues to be supported by a dedicated band of supporters concerned for the welfare of all birds.
Volume 3 continues the same style and layout as earlier volumes. It contains 776 pages and covers resident, migrant and introduced species from the Eastern Spinebill to the Common Greenfinch together with details of several new species now considered to be NSW regulars, the Lord Howe Island endemic or near-endemic species and a comprehensive listing of all verifiable records of species recognised as vagrants to NSW. Also included are lists of all species whose NSW provenance is considered doubtful and introduced birds that have not successfully established breeding populations. As with earlier volumes, there is a list of plants and animals referred to throughout the publication and an extensive Gazeteer. Finally, it includes an Index to the Scientific Names and an Index to the Common Names covering all 3 Volumes.
