About this book

Language: Portuguese

This volume is dedicated to sorosilicates (a group of compounds with structures that have two silicate tetrahedrons linked together) and cyclosilicates (a group of compounds with a structure in which silicate tetrahedrons are arranged in rings). Moving forward, Solaris Edições Culturais continues publication of this series, building on the excellent work carried out by the ULBRA Publishing House, Universidade Luterana do Brasil, in the production of the Enciclopédia dos Minerais do Brasil by Paulo César Pereira das Neves and Daniel Atencio.

Sorosilicates are a subclass of silicates that include species of great economic and scientific interest, such as epidote, zoisite, vesuvianite, bertrandite and hemimorphite, as well as several rare minerals. Cyclosilicates include minerals of great economic importance, such as beryl (with dazzling gemological varieties), cordierite and the tourmaline supergroup, with emphasis on species such as dravite, uvite and schorlite, in addition to elbaite, of which Brazil is one of the most important producers, with specimens of extraordinary beauty present in the main public and private collections throughout the world.

As far as possible, the publisher has maintained the editorial and graphic conventions, giving adequate continuation to the publication of the work, introducing small improvements where considered necessary, both to maintain continuity and to improve quality, particularly in the iconographic part, since, as a publisher with many works in the area of geosciences, Solaris has a vast repository of images related to minerals and the main deposits producing them in Brazil.
