This book offers extensive information on the systematics and biology of sharks and brings together the latest data on the fin trade. It focuses on identifying the pectoral, dorsal, and caudal fins of 48 shark species listed as most threatened in the IUCN red list, established in 2009, to allow international inspection services to quickly identify the fins belonging to major groups present. Determination is through a dichotomous key focusing on the morphology, colour and characteristics of the skin surface. Each order of sharks is covered according to its CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) status, and according to its geographic range, its economic interest and its protected status.
