This is the first comprehensive book on the ecology and conservation needs of all 139 mammals occurring in this Australian state, including introduced species and marine mammals. The preliminary text provides details of the discovery, history and description of Victorian mammals, the impact of European settlement, and the future of their conservation, plus a description of the Victorian environment. The accounts of individual species are accompanied by photographs and distribution maps generated from more than 117,000 records in the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife database maintained in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
