Language: Japanese with scientific nomenclature
The author, a researcher who has been working on marine products of Okinawa and Ishigaki Islands of Japan for a total of 20 years, here provides detailed explanations of 734 species of Okinawan marine fauna with clear photographs. In addition to 632 species of fish, 102 species of other marine species (shrimp, crab, shellfish, squid, octopus, sea urchin, sea snake, sea turtle, and seaweed) are also listed. In the front part of the picture book, there are explanations on how to use this book, basic knowledge of biology, biogeography of Okinawa Prefecture, dangerous creatures, Okinawan dialect, etc. (total 12 pages). In addition, there are explanations with illustrations on fishing, recreational fishing, and resource management (total of 10 pages). The illustrated book introduces how to identify species important to fisheries, fishing methods, fishing baits, and fishing seasons. At the end of the book, 28 references are introduced with brief explanations.
