Mostly photographic guide, covering over 1200 species to be found throughout Europe, including all those that are most widespread or likely to be encountered, together with many that are especially striking or well known or representative of particular groups. The detailed descriptions of each of the main species are emphasised by colour photos, taken in natural habitat. Where similar species exist these are also described and many are illustrated with meticulous line drawings.
