Sinauer Associates

Sinauer Associates began publishing from a downtown New England basement, with the aim of producing handsomely designed books on science.

Massachusetts-based Sinauer Associates has a rich catalogue of books aimed chiefly at university undergraduates, including many titles on subjects such as conservation, ecology, evolution, environmental science, plant science and zoology.

The bestselling Ecology, already into its third edition, is among the most popular undergraduate-level introductions to the subject.

Sinauer Associates was started in 1969 and among its early publishing successes was an environmental science textbook, and the board game Extinction: The Game of Ecology. Players would move from habitat type to habitat type, drawing environmental change cards as they tried to build-up their population levels. If they got too big they could be surprised by famine, plague or extinction.
