Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle

The Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, in Paris, has been one of Europe’s leading scientific institutions for more than 350 years.

The Paris natural history museum traces its origins to the Jardin royal des plantes médicinales, founded by Louis XIII in 1635. One of the few royal establishments to survive the French Revolution, the museum was a pillar of the Enlightenment before settling on the natural sciences - a specialism that has generated an herbarium with more than eight million specimens. MNHN publishes scientific works on all aspects of natural history, particularly in relation to the Francophone world.
