Slovenia is a floristically very rich country. Roses (Rosa L.) are a very small part of its biodiversity. Of the 200 known species, only 25 grow in Slovenia. Nevertheless, their identification down to individual species level is, at least in some cases, very difficult because the diversity within a particular species can be very high. In determining the species this is problemematic, but for the diversity of the genus this is very good. For this reason, there are many hybrids between species, as well as different crosses that can be found in nature. Four different phytogeographical areas in Slovenia, which are influenced by the effects of the Adriatic, the Alps, the Dinaric mountains and the Pannonian Plain, further add to this diversity and greatly contribute to the diversity of this genus within Slovenia. This book describes the Slovenian wild rose diversity.
