This book is based on a specific research project in Cotacachi, Ecaudor which was funded by USAID. The project focuses on the local population and their environmental and agricultural problems along with the soil, water, biodiversity and cultural patterns of the area. This book discusses how the people of Cotacachi and the environment have engaged each other over time to create the human and natural landscapes that we find today. It is split into five parts which explore the people and land in a historical framework, biodiversity, land use change and production, social conflict and environmental issues within a social context.
