The Eco Rocket Bat Box provides a useful alternative in locations where there are no suitable buildings or trees available on which to mount a bat box. It is ideal for mitigation projects and is often used as an alternative roost near to building sites during demolition works.
The box is made from FSC-certified OSB which consists of compressed waste wood chips and flakes. It has a weatherproof external shell made from 100% recycled plastic which has been UV-stabilised to ensure that it is long lasting and rot-proof. The Rocket Box has a large continuous wooden roosting space which surrounds the pole on all four sides. This enables the bats to move within the box, adjusting their position throughout the day as they select their preferred micro-climate. The 4 metre pole is manufactured in aluminium tube and powder coated in grey, whilst for greater strength, the 5 and 6 metre poles are made from structural steel tube, galvanised and powder coated in black.
The box is available in two designs: with a crevice chamber or with a cavity chamber. The crevice box features two concentric internal crevices 18mm wide, which run around the four sides of the box. This type of box is suitable for pipistrelles and other small crevice-dwelling species. The cavity box is designed for cavity-roosting bats such as brown long-eared bats and noctules. It has a single internal cavity which is 45mm wide, running around the box. Both types of box have rough walls and ceiling so that the bats have good grip, enabling them to move around the box and hang from the roof with ease.
To securely install your box, approximately 1m of the pole should be buried below ground. Position in a sheltered, sunny position, preferably in a bat corridor or along a hedgerow.
Please note: this item will be shipped directly from the manufacturer in two parts, with the pole being sent in one 4m, 5m or 6m length. The shipping charge varies considerably, so please contact customer.services@nhbs.com for a shipping quote before ordering.
All bats and roosts are protected by law and you should only inspect a bat box if you hold an appropriate licence.
