The family Corylophidae in the West Palaearctic region is revised and a new classification proposed. The family is now divided into four subfamilies: Peltinodinae; Corylophinae; Orthoperinae; Rypobiinae. The subfamily Rypobiinae consists of Rypobiini and a new tribe Gloeosomatini. A phylogenetic diagram is provided, based on 30 character states. Morphology of the spermathecae in this family is introduced with appropriate terminology. All existing type specimens are examined and lectotypes designated. Keys for the determination of all subfamilies, tribes, genera and species are provided. Morphological structures of all genera are re-appraised and figures are provided of: pro- and metathorax, head, antennae, proleg for all genera; and habitus, microsculpture, penis with internal armature and spermatheca for all species.
The following taxa are new to science: Clypastraea reitteri sp. n.; Clypastraea palmi sp. n.; Arthrolips klapperichi sp. n.; Orthoperus loebli sp. n.; Rypobius praetermissus sp. n.; Gleosomatini trib. n.
