Originally published in French, this photographic field guide covers every species of ant found in Britain and Europe.
More than 400 species of ant can be found in Europe, and Ants of Britain and Europe covers them all,with detailed descriptions for more than 150 of the more commonly encountered.
The species accounts include information on field characteristics, confusion species, habitat and biology, and appear along with accurate distribution maps. Ants of Britain and Europe also features a comprehensive introduction to ant ecology and guidance on where to look for ants and how to study them in the field, a glossary, an overview of families, and a detailed, illustrated identification key.
Nearly 600 superb photos are included, showing species close-up to highlight identification features and in their natural habitats. This is the first such guide to these insects, bringing these crucial yet often overlooked insects into the spotlight.
Claude Lebas is a teacher, and has been a member of the OPIE (the Office for the Protection of Insects and their Environment) since 1977. Christophe Galkowski from Association AntArea is a professor of biology. RumsaÏs Blatrix is a researcher at CNRS (the National Centre for Scientific Research in France), where he studies the interactions between plants and ants in tropical areas. Philippe Wegnez is president of the CEL (Entomology Circle of Liege).
