The magnificent first edition of 1980 revitalised the study of butterflies in the region and over 400 new species have been discovered. The much-needed revision is planned for 3 volumes. This second volume includes 170 new species, and the author describes several new taxa of his own, in the genera Euriphene and Charaxes. It also contains an essay on taxonomy vs. changes in biogeography and the concomitant archival importance of historic collections.
