Records for the China Bird Report 2005 sourced from 23 provinces, five autonomous regions, four cities and one special administrative region (exclusive Hong Kong and Taiwan). This is the first time that the annual report contains observations from each of the provinces. This issue receives a total of 1024 species from 64 families and 16 orders, which is about 76% of the total of the national list. Highlights of the Report 2005 include four species and a subspecies new to the China. Report 2005 presents the recent field sighting of 49 globally threatened species in China. A note about the first Himalayan Bulbul in China and a feature article about Black-faced Spoonbill in Guangdong are also included.
