The Depressor Vane is used to stabilise larger nets during towing by creating negative lift to the towing rope during horizontal or oblique use of a device such as Bongo Net or other kinds of plankton/microplastics net. The negative lift occurs because the water pressure under the vane is greater than that above it. This holds the net in a correct and stable position in the water for optimal sampling results and prevents spinning or twisting.
The vane is made at our Devon site and consists of a marine-grade (A4) stainless-steel body that weighs 8kg. A 1.5m stainless steel cable and 8mm shackle are attached and this is adjustable according to the towing speed and the desired position of the vane in the water. Measures 350 x 250 x 85mm (length x width x height).
Note: This product is designed for use with larger plankton net frames from 500mm to 1000mm. It is not suitable for use with 150mm, 250mm and 300mm frame plankton nets.
