About this product

This attractive wooden bat box has two internal chambers and is constructed from natural sustainable materials. The heavy construction provides good insulation and longevity, as well as preventing predators from chewing the entrance slot. The front door is hinged for inspection and cleaning.

This box is suitable for siting on trees in gardens or woodland and also on house walls. It is simple to install and the timber requires no annual maintenance. The bat box should be sited high up between 2.5m and 5m on a building or mature tree using the pre-drilled back plate hanger. The ideal aspect is so the box receives only part sun during the day North, South West or South East. If it is on an existing feeding or flight route you are more likely to get occupation.

Wooden boxes should not be painted or treated with any type of preservative, as these can harm the bats.

  • Not good for bats
    By Austin 21 Mar 2018
Four of these Oak double chamber bat boxes with between two and four each of the Schwegler models; 2FN, 2FP-DFP, 1FD, were hung in woodland sites in Northern Ireland in the years 2013 and 2014. None of these oak bat boxes had any bats or sign of bat activity and appear to be only good for night roosting birds. They appear to be too narrow in width to attract bats or even nesting birds.

  • Perfect for putting bats in during licensed works.
    By Claire 22 Nov 2018
These boxes are great for putting bats in when they are found during works, the hinged door means that there is no risk of hurting the bat and it is easy to hang bats on the back board while they are still inactive. They tend to stay put for the day and disappear the same evening so you know they are ok. Not ideal for re-locating a roost but great as a temporary roost when there are other roosting opportunities for your displaced bats around.

  • Good for brown long-eareds!
    By Beccy 29 Apr 2024
Ive had this box up for a few years (on the edge of some woodland) and was pleased to check it today (I have a bat licence) and to see four brown long-eareds roosting in it. So I would recommend this box for brown long-eared bats!
