About this book

Language: German

Insects and fungi pose a constant threat to museum collections and archives. Integrated pest management (IPM) is an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional methods to prevent the destruction of collection items and interest in it has increased significantly in recent years. The manual offers those responsible in museums and archives the ideal tools to successfully set up an IPM program and implement it over the long term. The procedures rely on prevention and quarantine. Systematic monitoring of pests provides important information so that control measures can be targeted and efficient.

This book is based on the now out-of-print 2001 book Pest Management in Museums, Archives and Historic Houses authored by David Pinniger. For this revised German version, the team of authors has been expanded, and all are proven experts in their field. Their recommendations combine the results of scientific research and practical experience. Since 1888, the Rathgen Research Laboratory of the Berlin State Museums has been a scientific institution dealing with issues of conservation as well as the art-technological and archaeometric analysis of historical objects across all materials.
