The Heslinga live-trap is made from green powder-coated aluminium which makes it light to carry and provides camouflage when in the field. This small mammal trap consists of a nest box compartment and a detachable entrance tunnel. The entrance tunnel has a trigger mechanism which causes the door to close when an animal enters the trap. The nest box then provides a spacious and comfortable temporary home for the occupant until the trap is checked. The nest box is large enough for bedding material and a small amount of food to be provided when the trap is set. It is also positioned at a slight angle so that any urine or condensation is allowed to drain out.
NB: Some small mammal species are protected by law (e.g. shrews in the UK). When trapping shrews in England you must comply with licence terms and conditions set out by Natural England, this information can be found on the government website. In Scotland you must apply for a license on the Nature Scot website. In Wales you must download the license from the Natural Resources Wales website and contact them to let them know you intend to activate the license. For Northern Ireland, visit the DAERA website to submit an application. Please ensure you are aware of and meet the requirements of any relevant laws in the country in which you are trapping.
