This book celebrates the enduring beauty and wonder of trees with an anthology of photographs that reveal these diverse and ancient plants in a new light – from tropical mangroves to suburban topiary and tangled hedgerows. The images in this exquisitely bound book have a strong slant towards contemporary photography – looking at newer, more unusal projects that capture a wealth of forms, landscapes and ecosystems. Far away from traditional and sometimes predictable images of majestic oaks, these pictures are shot using a variety of techniques – some experimental – that confront our often destructive relationship with these mysterious and life-sustaining plants. This book contains the work of 24 established photographers from around the world.
Sophie Howarth is an artist, writer and teacher. She was co-founder of The School of Life and a former curator at Tate Modern. She is the author of several books including Street Photography Now and The Mindful Photographer, both published by Thames & Hudson.
