With 30mp resolution images, 30fps 2K video, and no-glow LED illumination, the Num'axes PIE1060 Solar is a great choice for a mid-range, solar-powered trail camera. The solar panel charges an incorporated lithium battery, which is used as the camera's primary power source. 4 AA batteries (lithium batteries are recommended) can be used as a secondary power source, which the camera will draw on during the night or cloudy periods. In this way the battery life is hugely extended.
This camera also features innovative Wi-Fi technology, allowing for photos to be downloaded remotely when within the camera's signal range. The free app, available for iOS and Android devices, also allows you to make changes to the cameras settings when with the camera's range. This makes it a great choice to be set up in harder-to-reach areas.
Designed and manufactured in France, the PIE1060 features an excellent trigger time of 0.3s, an adjustable video length of 5 to 180 seconds, and 36 infrared LEDs providing a flash range of up to 30m (100ft). A 2-inch LCD colour screen built into the camera allows for photos, settings, and battery level to be quickly checked in the field. Able to take a micro SD card with storage capacity between up to 256GB (class 10 minimum), it can store several thousand photos without running out of space. Capacity can be optimised by taking images only and by decreasing the photo quality (easily adjusted between 2MP and 30MP) and video resolution (settings range from 368p to 2K), allowing for plenty of options for performance customisation. It has a multi-shot mode, with the option to take up to ten consecutive photos per trigger event, ensuring the best chance of capturing great wildlife images. The PIR (passive infrared detector) has three sensitivity levels, allowing for the camera to be optimised for capturing footage at different ranges and in different environments. The time lapse feature can be used to capture a series of images between set times of day, at variable intervals that can be selected via the timer setting. Overall the settings allow for an impressive degree of control, with advanced options to adjust the shutter speed (1/15, 1/20, and 1/30), flash interval, and to switch off capture if the solar battery is insufficiently charged at night.
Please note, the PIE1060 is not compatible with the Python Mini Cable Lock.
Also available as a starter bundle which includes the trail camera, 8 x lithium AA batteries and a 32GB MicroSD card.
Note: Although rechargeable batteries (of at least 2500mAh) can be used with trail cameras, they are not recommended due to their lower capacity and voltage. Therefore they are unlikely to operate the camera at its full potential, or as reliably when compared with standard lithium batteries. If the use of rechargeable batteries is necessary we recommend Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries which have been shown to perform well with trail cameras. Additionally, we recommend using a microSD card with a minimum write speed of 10MB/s (also labelled as U1 or class 10).
