About this product

Walk in the footsteps of the Romans and experience this ancient frontier with over 2,000 years of history. Highlights include: Gilsland, Corbridge, Haltwhistle, Humshaugh, Hexham, Haydon Bridge, Bardon Mill, Greenlea lough, Housesteads, Chesters Roman Fort, and Vindolanda. With this map you will receive a code for use on your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.

The amazing archaelogical remains of the Roman Wall, also known as Hadrian's Wall, can be seen at many sites on the map and include Roman forts, milecastles, museums and garrisons. This area of Northumberland is a World Heritage Area and is known for its gentle rolling hills, stunning rural views, rugged moorland beauty and a beguiling remoteness.

The 84-mile Hadrian's Wall Path is a National Trail that connects the quiet town of Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast to the ex-shipbuilding town of Wallsend near the bustling city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the north-east.

Hadrian's Wall Path is well signposted along its length and can be walked in either direction in between 6-10 days. Going from east to west means you end the walk at the more peaceful Solway Firth on the west coast, but walking west to east does mean that the prevailing wind is likely to be behind you most of the time. Hadrian's Wall is also ideal for day trips and short breaks, and there are many other places of interest and walking/cycling routes in the area.

This map covers the area from Long Bow in the west to Corbridge in the east, and includes Wark Forest to the north. To walk the entire Hadrian's Wall Path you also need OS Explorer sheets 315 Carlisle and 316 Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
