The innovative PIXFRA Ranger R6 series of handheld thermal imaging scopes offers an excellent quality optical experience with a lightweight, compact design. The impressive sensitive 640×512, 12µm, <30mK NETD thermal sensor and wide objective lenses that are signature to the series give a clear, bright thermal image in daylight and darkness, presented on a smooth 1440×1080 display. PIXFRA's advanced image processing algorithms ensure that the picture is consistently crisp and well-defined, while the six colour palettes (Black Hot, White Hot, Iron Red, Sepia, Green Hot, and Alarm) allow the user to tailor the view to changing conditions and their own preference. The rubber eyecup is ergonomically designed, and adjustable dioptre allows the user to manually ensure that the image is tailored to their eyesight for a fatigue-free viewing experience. The stadiometric rangefinder is a quick and easy method for accurately gauguing distance, helping to better inform decisions made during the hours of darkness.
The R6 series comes with a built-in WiFi module that can be used to stream the scope's feed directly to a smart phone and even allows multiple devices to connect for group viewing, plus a laser pointer to highlight subjects in a group setting. Still images and video can be recorded onto an MicroSD card (max. 256GB capacity), ensuring that memorable encounters are preserved. With a long-life rechargeable Li-ion battery providing up to 6.5 hours of charge time (temperature dependent) and the option to connect an external power supply for even longer periods of use, the R6 series is perfect for long stints in the field.
PIXFRA's robust, lightweight design philosophy is on full display here, with even the heaviest model - the R650 - weighing in at less than 500g. The R6 is protected against dust and water ingress, boasting an IP67 rating to show that it can survive being submerged in up to 1m of water for up to half an hour. Like PIXFRA's other thermal scopes the R6 has successfully passed a 2m drop test, ensuring that it is robust enough to survive the knocks and jolts that sometimes can't be avoided out in the field.
There are three models in the R6 series.
Ranger R625
The lightest of the R6 series models, the R625 combines a 25mm f1.0 objective lens with a lower 1.46x native magnification, giving it a shorter range than the other models in the series but a wider field of view of 17.4°x14.0. Able to detect heat signatures at a still impressive 1300m range, it provides and excellent compromise between range and view at a reasonable price.
Ranger R635
With an impressive 35mm f1.0 objective lens providing a bright thermal image, a 1800m range and 2.05x native magnification, the R635 is an excellent option for those who are looking for a high-end optical experience at a lower price point than the R650. With a 12.4°x10.0° field of view and weighing impressively little at less than 400g, it retains the portability of smaller models while achieving better results.
Ranger R650
The Ranger R650 combines PIXFRA's sensitive thermal sensor technology with a remarkably powerful 50mm f.10 objective lens, providing users with an amazing image at a range of up to 2600m. With a respectable 8.7°x7.0° field of view and a stunning native magnification of 2.92x, the R650 is a peerless choice for wildlife watching over long distances.
