新種の発見によって、これまでの恐竜に関する知識の間違いや誤解が次々明らかになっている。現代の古生物学が刺激に満ちているのは、化石の発見が相次いでいるうえに、分析方法が進化しているからだ。
ハイテク分析装置の登場は、最近見つかった化石の調査に役立つだけでなく、何十年も前に発見された化石を見直すきっかけにもなる。コンピューター断層撮影装置（CT）で髪の毛より細いものまでスキャンしたり、デジタル・レンダリングで恐竜たちのより正確な動きを再現することが可能になる。ハイテクツールや新しい研究手法のおかげで、恐竜が生きていた世界を生き生きと再現することができるようになりつつある。恐竜絶滅の原因や、恐竜の生態、移動方法、成長の仕方、卵にカモフラージュ用の色が付いていたことなどが、次々と明らかになりつつある。
