The Surge Suppressor is designed to guard the SM4, SM4BAT, SM3 and SM3BAT recorders from power surges that may happen during an electrical storm or when an electrostatic discharge occurs, although the Surge Suppressor is not designed to protect against a direct lightning strike. The device should be installed between a microphone cable and recorder. It includes a grounding lug which when connected to a good ground earth will ensure that a power surge is channelled harmlessly away before reaching the recorder. This accessory should be used wherever microphones are mounted at height. Grounding wire is not included with the suppressor and you will need to provide your own - this should be 12 gauge or thicker wire and less than 2 meters in length.
The Surge Suppressor is shipped ready to be used with an SM4 or SM4BAT recorder (a simple modification is required if you want to use the device with a SM3 or SM3BAT and instructions are included).
