Introduction and Notes by Colin Harrison
One of the most memorable collections of all time, The Birds of America is a veritable ornithological library - each species is identified and described in terms of its range, habitat, voice, breeding patterns, and plumage. The illustrations, in excess of 400, were originally part of the famed Elephant Portfolio of Audubon's work first published in London in 1821. This edition is beautifully reproduced from a subscription copy in the Cambridge University Library.
