About this book

First comprehensive account of the flea fauna of Fennoscandia and Denmark. 89 species/subspecies are treated, of which 69 have been found in the region.

Includes an overview of the the earliest literature and a more detailed account of the Scandinavian literature up to the present. Other chapters deal with flea-host associations, life history, medical importance, morphology, collecting/preservation of fleas and a flea-host index.

The systematic part, illustrated with Frans Smit's outstanding line drawings, provides identification keys to adult fleas from family to subspecies. For each species/subspecies, relevant information on synonymy, identification, distribution, host relations and biology is given. Includes a summary of distribution.
