About this book

This is a fully illustrated expert guide to over 575 mammals, amphibians and reptiles of the United States, Canada and South America. Every in-depth entry provides a full description and details of distribution, habitat, food, size, life span and conservation status. A fascinating natural history section explains how animals adapt to their habitats, as well as information about anatomy, reproduction, ecology, migration, hibernation, biomes, endangered species and wildlife conservation.

This book is a comprehensive visual guide to over 575 major species from the Arctic Circle, Alaska and Canada through to the United States, Mexico, Central and South America. Animals are grouped for easy reference according to their related types: frogs and toads, crocodilians, snakes, cats, dogs, bears, hoofed animals, New World monkeys, marsupials, dolphins and whales. From the largest land carnivore, the Kodiak bear, to the most agile of primates, the black-handed spider monkey, all the animals are accompanied by a lively description of their physical characteristics and behaviour, with easy-to-read information panels detailing their distribution, habitat, food, size, life span and conservation status. Additional information about the less common species is presented in at-a-glance panels throughout the book.
