The successor to The Atlas of Breeding Birds of Britain and Ireland. The first atlas presented the results of the first national survey of breeding birds completed more than 20 years ago, with maps from data only on the confirmed or probable breeding of each species in a given grid square. This second edition draws on the recent 1988-1991 BTO Survey, and presents three maps for each species account: one showing breeding distribution as before; a second in full colour showing relative abundance of the species throughout its range; and a third map highlighting changes in distribution between the current and original surveys.
