This book presents a set of 72 watercolour paintings, Butterflies and Plants, made by the eighteenth century English naturalist Henry Seymer and his son, Henry Seymer Junior. The Seymers lived at Hanford, near Blandford Forum in Dorset. Apart from two images reproduced in Vane-Wright & Hughes (2004), none of this work, an intriguing combination of art and science, has ever been published before. The paintings went unseen, other than by members of the Seymer family, for over 200 years.
