In 2012, the first author brought out Threatened Birds of India which sold out very quickly. It was soon realized that state-wise regional books on threatened Indian birds would be more useful as the conservation action takes place at the state level. Thereafter, eight such books covering different states were brought out in collaboration with local conservationists. This is the ninth book in this series and is sponsored by Madhya Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, Bhopal. It covers five Critically Endangered, seven Endangered, ten Vulnerable and 25 Near Threatened species. The status of the birds is based on the Red List of the IUCN. Updated information on the status and distribution of all the threatened species is given along with threats, protection measures underway, and recommendations. Each species' distribution range across the state is depicted in maps with respect to their presence before and after the year 2000. The authors hope that this information-rich book will be useful to decision-makers, researchers, ornithologists, park managers, NGOs, birdwatchers, and conservationists.
