This book on the history of topographical survey and mapping for BAT/FID ( British Antarctic Territory/Falklands Islands Dependencies) 1944-86 gives a detailed account of the progress made by surveyors of that period, working in remote and inhospitable locations in Antarctica, and of the challenges facing the cartographers back in the UK.
M. Barbara McHugo was closely involved with the mapping of BAT and FID for many years at both the Directorate of Overseas Surveys and the Overseas Surveys Division of the Ordnance Survey.
