About this book

There is no green energy. Nor pink, nor black. Nor clean nor dirty, for that matter.

In this intelligent, eye-opening and witty bestseller, an eminent climate expert takes a graphic novelist on a journey to understand the profound changes that our planet is experiencing. The scientist, Jean-Marc Jancovici, explains the workings of superpowers and history; oil and climate; ecology, economics and energy flows. He describes, in short, the world we live in today – a world whose future is deeply uncertain. The artist, Christophe Blain, intently listens and draws.

As the pair come face to face with global warming, they – along with Mother Nature, Pop Eye and Jiminy Cricket, among others – create a picture of what the solution to our predicament actually looks like. It's not just about switching to renewable energy sources, they show. It's about rethinking everything: our energy supply, our economies and our whole world. We're left with a vision of the future in which food, education, housing, transport and communities – in other words, all of us – work together and, with a few technological fixes, succeed in creating a world without end.

Media reviews

"One of the most brilliant summaries of climate issues that has ever been written [...] rigorous, realistic and lucid"
Huffington Post (France)

"This perfect duo explain ecological issues without an ounce of dogmatism [...] It is a far cry from the ideologues who, by dint of telling us that everything is screwed up, encourage more inaction or contrition than action. Jancovici does not pretend that we can fix everything. He believes that there are solutions to alleviate the problem, but we must begin by understanding it"
Les Echos

"With his graphic genius, Christophe Blain makes Jean-Marc Jancovici's analysis of climate. Change widely accessible [...] the subject is serious but nothing forbids laughing at it [...] Mischevious and lively"
La Croix

"Is it possible to talk about energy, climate, ecology and the uncertain future in a simple and fun way? World Without End shows that it is"
Ouest-France
