This contribution gives a taxonomic account of the two freshwater crab families Gecarcinucidae and Potamidae found in the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram, which is traversed by numerous streams and rivers. Also included is information on the use of these crabs as food and ethnomedicine, threats, and proposed conservation measures. A total of 15 species were discovered after three consecutive surveys during 2013-2015, belonging to ten genera., including one new species, Teretamon indicum.
